Div 5 vs Cracovia WE

24 May 2011 Written by HRSC

This week’s game would be played against Cracovia WE at home. Having not encountered this team before it would provide a new challenge with taking the 3 points the prime objective. The team set up in the usual manner with the 3-5-2 hoping to play some offensive football and put plenty of goals in the back of the net.

Some early goals from the away team put early pressure on the Rovers defence and midfield making it 0-4 and a poor start to the game. Then a superb individual performance by Deng with pace to dribble past the opposing defenders and then the composure to score a brilliant individual goal made the score 4-1.

At half time the score stood at 4-1, Rovers needed to come out firing in the 2nd half and hopefully make a comeback that would be a tough ask but possible, Rovers needing to put away any chances they got and make it count.

The changes made saw Kim coming off and taking a spell after countless work on the right wing which enabled Alex Chau to come on to run at Cracovia’s defence and put some good balls into the box to set up some goals.

From this substitution Rovers second goal was created after a superb cross by Alex that found Boris and set him up for a half volley to make it 2-4 putting some life into the Rovers side.

The second and final substitution was for Skip to make way for Daryl to test his luck against the keeper and keep some attacking pressure on the defence while accompanying Deng up front. Two more goals to Cracovia ended any real hope of Rovers getting something out of the game.

After another attack by Cracovia broke down the ball would come again to Alex who would take the safe option and pass back to Aleks Dudek to build up the attack again. He was able to find Boris who looked up and sailed a ball into the box trying to find Daryl but the defender came toppling over him. The ball then fell to Jai's feet who was able to sprint past a defender and then line up a shot into the bottom left corner making it 3-6 which was unstoppable for the keeper.

The final goal for the Rovers would come as a result of Daryl being fouled in the box. After last week’s miss Aleks came to the spot again trying to redeem himself and scored starting his successful conversion streak again with last week being the first time in 3 years he had missed one.

With the final score being 4-7 the game proved to be a goal fest with plenty of end to end stuff keeping everyone on their toes and edge of their seats.
