Hamersley Masters II 2-2 Sorrento

After a not so stirring cup defeat on Easter Monday, Mark Chamberlain's boys (over 35 and under 40) and men (the rest), took on local rivals Sorrento in the first game of the North Division 3 season. Having seen our results from last season, we were immediately assigned the main pitch, complete with technical areas (appropriately placed off the pitch). Davy continued to fill in as goalie, as we await Gys' return, and new boys Joe, Hoff, Jerome, Ash, and Leonard made their Hamersley league debuts.

A promising first 20 minutes took a familiar turn with a couple of defensive errors gifting Sorrento a 2-0 lead. But we had been playing well, with aggression and enthusiasm, and keeping the ball better, and when Ash broke down the left, his sweet swinging cross was met forcefully by Leonard, who headed home. 2-1 at half time, but soon after we were a further three down (not goals, but men, with two hammies and a thigh forcing Ash, Leonard and Tarun off in quick succession).

Ash returned to go in goal, and Davy moved to left back, as we were left with a bare eleven. That was one more than them, as one of their players saw red for a late and unfriendly tackle on Campbell. 20 minutes left, and they were slowing quickly. We had possession in their half for long periods, though they looked dangerous on the break even with ten.

Finally, a bouncing ball fell to Jerome, who hit it beautifully into the net with the help of a petit deflection (that's French). 2-2. We then went off the boil a bit and couldn't hold the ball long enough to get a winner, but a first point in the first game, is a good start for the new coach who has ushered in a new era of attacking football with his 4-3-3 formation
