Social II on a Roll

21 May 2012 Written by HRSC

Social II played a home fixture against UWA-Nedlands at home this week with both teams requiring a win to help get them to a mid-table position. The result was 5-1 in favour of the Hamersley Rovers and this result puts us in 8th position, giving us 3 wins in a row.

It was that man again, M Fulco, who put the opposition defence to the sword again with an outstanding 4 goal haul. If his double against Red Sea was all about low and hard shots, this week was all about pin-point floaters from the cultured forward. The UWA goalkeeper was struggling to deal with the well placed high balls.

Rovers were 2-0 up in the first five minutes thanks to M Fulco, but unfortunately from about 20 minutes in, the performance dropped.  A Giorgi was unlucky not to score after hitting the crossbar from 20 yards, however, UWA were let back in via a corner and Rovers lost the cohesiveness that got them the first two goals. Luckily, M Fulco completed his hat-trick shortly after to take Rovers into half-time up 3-1.

The second half was perhaps a better performance for the Rovers, who started playing the ball on the deck through the park. M Fulco, like he did two weeks ago, sent a delightful cross from the left to his brother S Fulco, who guided a placed header past the goalkeeper. M Fulco got his double brace shortly after and the result was never in any doubt.

In hindsight, the performance was not entirely polished and the team are still improving. There were missed opportunities for strikers A Giorgi and even for M Fulco, who could have had 6 or 7. Luckily, the spine of the team holds strong with Pelemis and Lombardo particularly impressive at the back.

Next week sees the team travel to Morley International in a game the Rovers will fancy. We lose industrious midfielder C Milici for two weeks but may be fortunate to bring back injury-plagued midfielder J Milici and talented forward Corfias.
