Hamersley Ladies Bow Out Of The Cup

Most of you would look at that score line and say 'wow! They got thrashed' or perhaps even 'they must be so embarrassed', but that is certainly NOT how the team feels after their performance. The words proud, determined...and maybe a little exhausted come to mind!!

Being drawn against a premier league state side, Queens Park, we always knew it was going to be a tough game. Add to that, 5 of our regular team unavailable, we knew it was going to be be a REALLY tough game! After playing a Division 1 State side in the last round, and coming through with an upset win, we also thought we might have a chance.. Perhaps a slim chance, but a chance none the less!!

So, going into the game with nothing to lose, and everything to gain, we went out in the pitch with our hearts in our mouths, butterflies in our stomachs and a belief in our ability.

If they say we didn't put up a fight, they simply weren't watching the game. We created many chances and had them on the back foot more than once. Our goal, from a penalty, was a reward for Ella's hard work down the right wing, converted cooly by Dorte.

We were outclassed on the day, but certainly not downcast. To be told by your opposition that we performed better than their previous cup opponent, a division 1 reserves team, helped bolster spirits and made us even prouder of the performance of the team on the day.
A huge amount of thanks goes to Kyra, our fearless keeper, who replaced Louise early, and without her, the score could have been much worse! Awesome performance girl!
Thanks also to Lexie, Amaarah and Robynne who were on the bench 'just in case' and thankfully that situation never arose!
And lastly thank you to the huge support we had on the sidelines. All the yelling, screaming and encouragement makes a difference, and is much appreciated! We hope you enjoyed watching as much as we enjoyed playing!! A special thanks to Gav and T for taking the nets down at the end of the game... It was certainly the least thing on our minds!!!
