On Sunday 11 March, Sorrento Football Club met head-to-head with the Hamersley Rovers in the annual Carine Cup. Reaching a top of 41 degrees, both teams played very well in a high quality match.

Spectating at Percy Doyle Reserve, Tony Krsticevic was there to cheer both teams on and to present his donation of the trophy to Hamersley who took out the match 4-1.

"It has been a great pleasure sponsoring the Carine Cup over the last four seasons," Tony said.

"As usual, it was a fantastic afternoon of high quality soccer between Sorrento and Hamersley, which resulted in Hamersley winning the Cup for the first time in four years!"

Hamersley President Carol Marinkovich said the game was played in a great friendly atmosphere as the two clubs have a traditional but friendly rivalry which helps bring professional and amateur clubs together on a community level.

"A great day was had by all and in particular a good lead up for Hamersley's forthcoming season," Mrs Marinkovich said.

"Special thanks to everyone involves in making it an enjoyable afternoon of football, Sorrento for their hospitality and facilities and Tony for his continuing support of the Carine Cup."

The winner's trophy will be on display at the respective club rooms until the teams meet again next year.

The match was played in great spirits and players joined with spectators afterwards for drinks and nibbles in the clubhouse.

Tony said the re-match in 2013 will no doubt be a spirited affair worth watching.
