Ladies I Continue on Their Winning Ways

21 May 2012 Written by Lee Kennedy

With a quarter of the season gone and a constant reshuffling of the league by Football West, we weren't so sure what Brooklands were going to bring. So, as coach says every week "just stick to OUR game and we will win".

With just a 12 man/lady squad, we were hopeful Sian and Karen weren't suffering too much with a over-hang, and TK was over her chest infection. Luckily enough all 3 were in fine form in time for the game!!

We lined up this week without our usual right back, Maddi, who was off celebrating the fact she can now drink legally!! We found an equally impressive right back in Ciara K for the game, who filled Maddi's boots well!! We also found ourselves without Shelley... Who jut can't say NO to her Gaelic coach...maybe you need to be a bit more scary coach! As luck would have it, our yummy mummy Karen was able to fill in and assist our awesome attack.

We settled down after 10 mins and played some impressive football which eventually paid off for Sian to score the first two of her afternoon hat trick. They then managed a goal when an unfortunate moment saw Leanne land on top of the ball and it to roll agonisingly over the goal line whilst she winded herself! Sian slotted her third past their keeper and then a lapse in concentration from the kick-off saw them easily slot a goal in from their speedy striker.

With the score at 3-2, Brooklands played a through ball for their striker to run on to, when Leanne rushed to the edge of the box to collect... None of us thought this would be the last thing she did for us for the game. With a bit of agitation from Brooklands striker, and a bit of aggression for Leanne, both players were shown a red card and both teams reduced to 10 players. Claudia was asked to fill the gloves (rather smelly ones apparently) and did an exceptional job!

Half time couldn't come quick enough and with Michelle's motivational oranges and coaches refreshing address..(no Michelle's refreshing oranges and coach motivational address...oops!) we set ourselves to play out the rest of this game how we play every week. Be first to the ball. Call for the ball. Be hard at the ball. Enjoy yourself.

So with our re-focus we took to the pitch to show Brooklands how we can finish teams off. We dominated the play and kept them at bay with Claudia confidently taking care of the few balls that made it through from the solid defence. Our chances at goal were coming thick and fast and a few Sian chances went agonisingly close and in the end it was a great cross from Sian that Michelle was able to finish and an opportunist goal for TK that finished our opposition off. See...you should always follow the ball in, or hang around in the box to pick up those fumbled balls!!

So what we did in the end was live by the philosophy coach is teaching "play our game and we will win"!

Great effort by the whole team. Next week we meet an ex-div 2 team Wembley Downs who I'm sure will challenge us just as much as Brooklands.
