Cup News Round 2
02 June 2014
Four out of our five Hamersley teams progressed in the cup today to make it a successful day for the club.
Hamersley Premiers were pushed all the way by Division 5’s Yanchep United, winning 5-3 in extra time. Rovers went a goal behind before Ryan Sochanik and Dave Howell made it 2-1 before the break. Yanchep came out with purpose in the second half and scored twice to lead 3-2. With only seconds to spare Stu Simmons rifled home from the edge of the box to take the game to extra-time.
With Yanchep down to 10 men through injury Rovers started to exert control. A dazzling run by Conor Fullard set up Steve Kruit to put Hamersley in front 4-3. Declan Sharp then scored a screamer to make the game safe.
Premier Reserves won a 7-4 goal-fest against Yanchep Reserves with Matty Austin (2), Milo Fowler (2), Dan Guggisberg (2) and Dan Willis finding the net. Both teams move through to the last 16.
Ladies I took on last weeks opponents Lynwood United and again defeated them to win 5-0. Michelle Oveinikovas (3), Dorte McGillivray and Shelly Dunne were the goal-scorers. With fewer teams in the draw, Ladies I are through to the Quarter Final stage.
Masters I had a comfortable 8-0 win against South Division 3 side FC Shoalwater. An own goal from a Tommy McBride cross set them on the way before Joe Wright (3), Rich De Fraine, Matty Baker, Vlad Jelinak and Adrian Coppock finished the job.
Masters II bowed out losing 3-0 to Division 1 side Joondalup City, giving the higher division side a run for their money for much of the game.
