First Team Win Season Opener
19 April 2012
Hamersley Rovers secured a 3-0 win away at Spearwood Dalmatinac in their first Premier League fixture in 3 years. Spearwood were last years cup finalists and always present a tough challenge but Rovers took control of the game and ran out convincing winners.
Dan Scudder came in for James Young who was away coaching with the Burnley High Performance Centre. Sam Long started up front as Ricky Andrews moved to left back at the expense of Steve Pountney.
All three goals were scored from set-pieces which must have pleased new coach Craig Doble. Michael Howard opened the scoring with a well worked free-kick to give the Hammers a 1-0 lead.
The next two goals were by scored by defenders, both from corners. Firstly Matt Emery with a geat header for his first goal for the club. Then Ben Ashton with a towering header for his first of the season.
The defence held firm to secure another clean sheet and the first 3 points of the season. Next weeks game at home to cup holders Joondalup United will prove a real test for a Hamersley team looking for its 3 win on the trott.
