Sunday Wrap: Round 4

12 May 2014 Written by HRSC

Goals galore in many of the matches involving Hamersley teams this Sunday, unfortunately 54 of them were in the against column on a dark day as we suffered 9 defeats across the board. Many of our teams were up against opponents at or near the top of their respective leagues but Rovers players and coaches will be working hard this week to turn things around for next Sunday.

Our Premier team were up against a resurgent Fremantle Croatia who have recruited some very good State League players in the off season. Rovers were on the back foot from the off and it didn’t let up. Down 4-0 at the break, a second half goal fest saw Rovers on the end of a 9-4 defeat. Goals from Shaun Gibbons (2), Dan Malatesta and Dan Fowler gave the score-line some respectability.

The Premier Reserves dropped their first points of the season losing 4-1 to Fremantle Croatia Reserves. Steve Kruit with the solitary goal.

Division 4 were up against top of the table Forrestfield United. Despite being ahead 2-1 after 50 minutes the match suddenly rained goals. Rovers conceded the next four and the match ended 8-4 in favour of Forrestfield. Luke Baldwin, Zach Smith, Josh Burns and Scott O’Connell on the scoresheet. Division 4 Reserves went down 4-1 with goal machine Bob Unganai scoring again.

Ladies I opponents were Northern Redbacks, a huge force in womens football as a female only club. With a huge player pool to choose from the Redbacks were victorious, 7 goals to 1. Ladies II got one of the two wins on the day beating Stirling Lions 4-3 with a great team effort.

Social I were edged out 4-3 to Centenary FC, while Social II fought very well in a 4-1 defeat to Liberties Celtic. Social III also went close in a 4-3 defeat to Morley Windmills.

Masters I had the best result of the day, taking on and beating Masters power-house Joondalup United. After going 1-0 down the team rallied with goals from Simon Edwards (2) and Aaron Kriletich. Masters II had a long drive home from Perth Hills after going down 6-0.

Onwards and upwards.
