Opening Day Win for Hammers

Hamersley Rovers opened their account for the season with a hard fought 1-0 win over newly promoted Gwelup Croatia. A first half goal from debutant Ryan Williams ensured the points stayed at Carine Open Space.

A tough game in hot conditions saw both teams struggle to maintain possession or create too many meaningful chances. Some crunching tackles also tested the patience of the referee who pruduced his yellow card on 8 occasions.

After Hamersley took the first half honours, Gwelup pressed looking for the equaliser. Their best chance expertly saved by Ian Norgrove from close range. Tempers flared in the last minute which resulted in three red cards, two for Hamersley and one for Gwelup.

However it was all hand shakes after the final whistle and it was Rovers who celebrated with the team song and three points.

Hamersley Reserves also recorded a win making it a great day for the club, going 3-0 up before seeing out the game 3-2. Other results for the day were:
