Sunday Wrap: Round 1

15 April 2014 Written by HRSC

A mixed bag of results on the first day of the league season for all the Hamersley Rovers teams.

Our Premier Amateurs were on the end of a 5-2 defeat but the scoreline doesn't tell the whole story. Kingsley went 3-0 up aided by a harsh penalty and an own goal before Hammers fought back to make it 3-2 with goals from Mickey Garcia and Shaun Gibbons. Chasing the equaliser, Kingsley hit Rovers with two very late goals on the break. Luke Baldwin was named as Rovers best player.

The Premier Reserves also had to come back but from 2-0 down, but did so in style to win the game 3-2. Goals from Matty Austin, a penalty from Dan Malatesta and the winner from debutant, Milo Fowler.

Rovers Division 4 first team lost at Curtin University 3-1, James Walsh with the Hammers goal. Division 4 Reserves picked up a point in a 1-1 draw with the goal coming from the returning Bob Unganai.

Newly promoted Ladies I lost their opening game in Division 1, 4-1 away to Stirling Panthers while Ladies II won on forfeit against Curtin University.

All our social teams suffered defeats, Social I lost 2-0 to Wembley Downs, Social II lost 6-2 to Kingsley and Social III lost 3-0 away to Curtin University.

In contrast both Masters teams tasted victory. Masters I began life in the Premier League with a resounding 6-1 win over Wembley Downs while Masters II defeated Carramar 4-3.
