Sunday Wrap: Round 3

05 May 2014
A much better week for our Hamersley teams with 5 wins and a few close losses. Most importantly our Premier team won their first league game of the season, 4-2 against South Perth United.
Rovers enjoyed the better of the first half and took the lead with a smart Shaun Gibbons finish. After the break South Perth enjoyed a bit of pressure on the Hamersley goal which ended with an equaliser despite calls for offside. Gibbons and a goal straight from a corner from Ryan Sochanik restored the lead but a penalty to South Perth brought it back to 3-2. A nervous finish but the Rovers goal was rarely threatened and Michael Garcia made the game safe late on.
The Premier reserves continued their strong start to the season make it three wins in three with a 7-1 over South Perth reserves. Goals from Dan Malatesta (2), Stu Simmons (2), Matty Austin, Milo Fowler and an own goal from South Perth.
Division 4 first team were leading 3-1 at the break but conceded three quick goals early in the second half before Subiaco scored late to seal the game. Goals from Ollie Healy (2) and Zach Smith. Division 4 reserves had their first win of the season, 4-2 with a superb performance from Bob Unganai who scored all four.
Ladies I encountered another tough game away to top of the table Fremantle United and were defeated 5-2. Ladies II however have gone top of their league with a 6-1 away to Forrestfield United.
Social I had a bye while Social II were very unlucky to lose 2-1 to Noranda City, a dubious late penalty the deciding goal. Social III suffered a heavy defeat to North Perth United, going down 10-1.
Both Masters teams enjoyed wins, Masters I beat Subiaco 2-0 with goals from Rich De Fraine and Simon Edwards. Masters II won 5-1 with goals from Ash Dyer (2), Mark Scannel, Jerome Georget and Jon Lochead.
